Project Scraps
Let there be light...
Following Project Scraps, the midterm assignment at Full Sail University I, Casey White was tasked with creating a level design within the creative vision of the dystopian universe of Scraps. Complete from concept to completion I created an immersive level containing two mechanics and multiple game play setups utilizing an Introduce - Practice - Twist - Master design formula. Beginning at the concept stage I created a bubble diagram outlying the boundaries and setups of my level. To accompany the bubble diagram I created a Level Design Document outlining the concept, the featured asset of my level and displaying in detail the game play setups pertaining to my level. From this a map was constructed, this map would later be used to construct my level within the Unity Engine.
During the design phase from my first playable, Alpha, Beta and Gold I have utilized the coding language C#, AutoDesk Maya, and Unity's Probuilder to create a fleshed out video game level. I began with a block out of my level utilizing a Unity Projector to project my level design map onto a plane where I utilized modular walls I created to construct the layout and buildings of my game. I prototyped two mechanics, jump platforms and pop-up barriers to protect the player from harmful turrets. These mechanic were implemented into the various setups illustrated by my LDD and the level design map. To complete my block out I made certain I had fully animated, debugged mechanics in order to test the play-ability and duration of my level design.
In alpha phase I made certain that I had a level that was 'feature complete' including audio and visual feedback these included ambient noise, several animations as well as two debugged mechanics. Through the Beta Stage I was tasked with having an 'Asset Complete' level as well as implementing any and all feedback received from play testers. Going into the Gold Production and utilizing the built in Profilere of Unity I sought to polish and perfect my mechanics and the gameplay features within my level design.
